Creating a Capsule Wardrobe: Shoes

I find that being 20, a homeowner, and a soon to be student, keeping up with current trends and changes in the fashion world can sometimes be hard to reflect in your wardrobe for a friendly price. However, I am at a place at the moment where I feel like own a versatile enough wardrobe to accommodate new styles and own a ‘capsule wardrobe’ as such – all it takes is to buy a new key piece to add to your collection and you’re on trend – rather than uprooting your whole wardrobe every time a new trend comes in. I thought I’d give you some examples of what I deem to be Capsule Wardrobe Essentials when it comes to owning a versatile collection. In this post I’ll focus on shoes but in other posts I’ll go though all aspects of your wardrobe.

Obviously, I’d be telling a huge lie if I was saying I only own three pairs of shoes but I wanted to create this based on what I really wear on a day-to-day basis – which is essentially three pairs. Also, you should own more shoes of course if you deem them essential to YOUR wardrobe and always grab a bargain if you can!

The Boot:

Black boots are my go-to choice of footwear with nearly any outfit. Want to dress up some jeans? Want to dress down a dress? Black boots are your answer and can be so versatile with any outfit. My black boots are not only super comfortable but warm too.

When choosing your signature black boot you need to take the versatility into account – steer away from patterns/embellishments and clunky buckles. Try to stick to leather or a vegan alternative if you’d rather, as cheap materials or suede will get damaged and your savvy investment will be wasted.

My current black boots are from Clarks (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it) and since buying them 7 months ago, they don’t look a day old – the quality is amazing. I will usually pair my black boots with skinny jeans, a graphic tee and a leather jacket but simultaneously they will look great too with tights, a mini skirt and a duster coat – the possibilities are endless

The Trainer:

Trainers have remerged into Fashion so heavily in recent years and sported by every model in the limelight – whether it be the latest drop of Yeezy’s or your favourite old high tops, every girl needs their go-to trainers. Not only can they create a relaxed style but are super comfort for on the go. My trainer of choice is any black or white trainer with a thick sole – whether it be my Nike Internationalists, High Top Converse or Old School Vans – I find any of these will go perfectly with some mom jeans and ooze effortless style.

I’m all for the new trends of the chunky trainer, and totally love how other bloggers are killing styling them but I already know they’re not for me – I already have size 6 feet as it is, I don’t need anything making my feet look any bigger.

More recently, I’m living in my Adidas Superstars as they go with everything. I even paired them with a duster coat the other day and it really finished off the jeans and trainer combo. The trick to trainers is to just be confident, when you think you might be dressing down an outfit too much, you probably look amazing and effortless.

The Heel:

Every girl needs her one trusty heel in her wardrobe which looks chic with every outfit and mine is the classic ‘barely there’ black heel (are you noticing a colour scheme yet?). Any colour scheme/any style/ any occasion – stick on ye trusty heels and you’re ready to go. I love the ‘barely there’ style because I feel like there are classic and very flattering. They elongate your leg which is always elegant and like I say, will go with ANY outfit. Of course, some people don’t feel entirely comfortable with whipping their toes out so if that’s you I’d suggest a pointed, court high heel which again will scream sophistication and class.

My current heels are from Public Desire and are a chunkier twist on the ‘barely there’ heel – they have a thicker black toe and ankle strap with a block heel. They’re still high but I find that the block heels makes them so wearable with any outfit and I can walk in them all night long. Also, I like that they’re a bit different and quirky, I find that every time I wear them I get some sort of compliment.

I feel like these three styles are your basics to starting a capsule shoe-drobe but I’m never going to deny myself a good bargain I see on sale!
